ICKLER WINS NASCAR CWS EAST RACE AT SOUTH BOSTON
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (June 2, 2008) -- Brian Ickler won his second consecutive NASCAR Camping World Series East race in overpowering fashion when he took the Strutmasters.com 150 at South Boston Speedway.
A Californian who formerly competed in the Camping World Series West, Ickler led 149 laps of the scheduled 150-lapper, which was extended to 155 laps by late-race caution periods.
Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for both the CWS East and West programs and the same line of bias-ply tires the company makes for the CWS program are supplied to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series north of the border.
"Both race winner Brian Ickler and hometown hero Peyton Sellers said the tires performed very well throughout the 150 lap event," said Chad Fletcher, Goodyear sales account manager for touring series.
Austin Dillion finished second to Ickler at South Boston. Sellers, another transplanted CWS West racer, was third. Eddie MacDonald finished fourth, followed by Matt Kobyluck. The starting field included 32 cars on the .4-mile oval.
Though Ickler led all but six laps in the race, there were a dozen lead changes Ricky Carmichael posted the fastest time in qualifying with a lap averaging 89.759 mph.
Dillon leads Ickler 520-501 at the top of the CWS East standings.
