Theriault Comfortable In First Nashville Practice
"Female Sensation Itching For Career Best Tonight"
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (July 22, 2007) - - NASCAR Busch East Series (NBES) Rookie-of-the-Year candidate Michelle Theriault heads in tonight's Music City 150 presented by Coyote Ugly looking to grab her first career top-five finish in only her eighth NBES start and based upon her showing in the first practice session this afternoon, that goal has the potential to become a reality.
Theriault, driving the No. 37 GLOCK, Inc. Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for Spraker Racing Enterprises returns to the Music City Motorplex for the first time since 2003.
While tonight, she'll make her NBES debut at the famed Nashville short track, Theriault knows the prior experience and the recent test session will make her inaugural NASCAR MCMP (Music City Motorplex) debut a potentially successful one.
At the start of the hour practice session, Theriault turned respectable lap times. Theriault however would adapt better to the track several laps later by adjusting her groove around the facility by inching her No. 37 GLOCK, Inc. Chevrolet up into the middle lane.
Her lap times improved shooting the Spraker Racing Enterprises team into the top-12 before bringing her machine to the attention of her team noting a tight condition from the center off. The group made a change in the shock and sent their driver back on track. The adjustment changed the handling of her GLOCK, Inc. sponsored automobile as Theriault now faced a loose condition around segments of the racetrack.
Theriault offered, "We have a good setup for the race, but I would like to find some more grip, which will help us for qualifying."
The team would make another round of adjustments sending their driver returning to the .596-mile paved oval with 30 minutes left of practice and 14th on the rundown.
With the car still a tick tight, Theriault reported to the crew that the car was unstable and erratic. Jeff Spraker, mentor, spotter and owner advised his driver to bring the machine back to the team where they would raise the hood and make a track bar adjustment, going up a quarter-inch on the left side.
During that run, Theriault logged several laps but reported to the team that her GLOCK, Inc. Chevrolet wanted to "wash up" the track when she unreleased the brakes in the corner. Spraker called his prot0x00e9g0x00e9 back to pit road where they made a chassis adjustment on the right rear.
Setting up for the final run of the first practice, Theriault hustled her machine around the historic track looking to make her mark in the first of two practices this afternoon.
During the last run, the team aimed for five clean laps.
Theriault stated the car was twitchy. Spraker advised Theriault that the heavy bumps around the short track could be a factor in the way the car is handling.
The group would take the notes from the first practice and planned to tweak the GLOCK, Inc. Chevrolet to provide a quicker time during the second and final practice session set to roll off at 2:00pm.
At the conclusion of practice, Theriault posted her fastest lap on circuit nine turning a lap of 20.643 seconds putting her 20th on the sheet overall. Theriault ran 37 laps during the first practice session.
"I think the car is ideal for racing conditions tonight," said Theriault. "The car's handling changed throughout the practice, but we're going to make some adjustments heading into happy hour and I'm confident we'll have a good setup that will make us excel in qualifying -- setting us up for a superb run tonight."
The Music City 150 presented by Coyote Ugly (150 laps/89.40 miles) is the eighth of 14 events on the 2007 NASCAR Busch East Series schedule. Final practice will run from 2:00 to 3:00pm. Qualifying is set for later in the day commencing at 5:00pm Local Time. The green flag will waive later in the evening shortly after 7:00 pm Local Time.
