WITH THE LUCK ON HIS SIDE, ROGELIO LOPEZ HEADS TO MANSFIELD
CHARLOTTE, NC (August 23, 2007).- Rogelio Lopez heads to Mansfield with the luck on his side, since at each new venue he has clinched the victory.
"Mansfield is a new track in the NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch East Series and I think these are good news for us, because since we used to race in Mexico, at every new track we inaugurated, at every new track we won. Then, the same thing happened at Nashville and we hope to have the same good luck this weekend," the Telmex/Lucas Oil-backed driver said.
"The Mansfield Motorsports Speedway is a half of a mile (0.805 Km.) short track. Some teams already tested there. We didn't have the chance to do it. It is a track that has little banking. The car is ready and we only have to take care of a few details," he said.
"It is a quiet week, but we have to be ready for these last three races, because they are important for the championship. We have the opportunity to win the Rookie of the Year honors and finish in the Top-5 in the championship. Then, we have to close strong and be prepared for the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown on October. Before, we still have a few races to go such as Ohio, New Hampshire and Dover. We are preparing the car for Dover; I think it will be ready just before New Hampshire. We still have a lot of things to do, but we are ready after Lime Rock," the 2006 NASCAR Mexico Series champion said.
"This is a track hard to pass. We have to qualify in the front to not wear out the car to get to the front and as usually, to work so the car can be in perfect conditions for the end of the race. We have to work on the car so it can be fast and we can have good tires for the final laps. In fact, it did not hear a lot about Mansfield, because there aren't too many people that have been there. When we get the track this weekend we will realize how really is," he said.
"On Friday morning I am heading to Ohio. The car is ready and we will do the final details with the team there," the Mexican rookie driver said.
This is a one day event (Saturday, August 25) and begins with the first practice at 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. (ET). Second practice at 11:45 - 12:30 a.m. (ET). Qualifying starts at 2 p.m. (ET) and the Mansfield 150 starts at 5:30 p.m. (ET) and will be held at 150 laps.
