GRESHAM READY TO TURN LEFT AND RIGHT THIS WEEKEND AT LIME ROCK
GRIFFIN, GA (June 30, 2010) -- Lady Luck has thrown a few curves at Max Gresham and his Joe Gibbs Racing team in the last two NASCAR K&N Pro Series East events. Now, Gresham is going to have to deal with a few more twists and turns as he and his No. 18 JGR Toyota head for Lime Rock (CT) Park and a road-course first for the young driver.
"I've run road course events in Legends and Bandolero cars and I have also tested at a road course in a spec Miata and a K&N Pro Series Car earlier this year. We tested at Kershaw, NC about two months ago. I thought it was a good test. I learned a lot about braking and that whole right hand turn thing. It was a real effective test for me and my Joe Gibbs Racing team."
Gresham and his Gibbs' mates have been extremely effective this season running with or at the front of the pack. While the team has won K&N events this year at South Boston (VA) Speedway and Iowa Speedway, the last two races have been heartbreakers as tire problems at Martinsville and New Hampshire have short-circuited sure Top-10 finishes.
"This last one was a little bit tougher to take," said Gresham of his flat tire with just 11 laps remaining at New Hampshire. "We had a good run going - one minute we're in the Top-5 -and the next, the race was over and we were 21st. That's also the second race in a row we've had some bad luck. We don't really have time to think about it. We're going to Lime Rock this weekend and we'll do what we normally do -- give it our all. Whatever our all gets is what we will end up with."
Gresham, a 17-year-old Woodward Academy (College Park, GA) senior student, thinks Saturday's K&N event at Lime Rock Park will be an interesting event.
"I'm excited, it's going to be a learning experience," said Gresham. "I've never been on a road course before in a big bodied car. It's going to be all new and I can't wait to see how we perform this weekend. It's a totally different circumstance for me."
