Bumps hometown MacDonald off top spot

LEE, N.H. -- Kevin Swindell earned his first career Coors Light Pole Award, taking it away from hometown favorite Eddie MacDonald, Friday at Lee USA Speedway.

The 21-year-old Swindell, from Germantown, Tenn., went out 21st of 24 qualifiers and turned a lap of 15.562 seconds (86.750 mph) around the .375-mile oval. MacDonald qualified second at 15.589 (86.600). The Rowley, Mass., driver who made his series debut at Lee in 2001, had held the top time for most of the qualifying session.

Max Gresham qualified third at 15.591 (86.588). Darrell Wallace Jr. and DJ Shaw rounded out the top five.

Andrew Rangers, Sergio Pena, Brett Moffitt, Cole Whitt and Ryan Gifford completed the top 10. Whitt, Gifford and Andrew Smith had the same qualifying time and the time was broken by their place in points.

Series points leader Ryan Truex qualified 16th.
