Go West Young Man; Goess Heads to Iowa for Camping World Series Showdown
DENVER, N.C. (May 15, 2008) -- Craig Goess and the No. 2 Greenville-Toyota team head west this weekend to Newton, Iowa for the NASCAR Camping World Series East/West showdown in the U.S. Cellular 200. After an accident and 27th-place finish at Greenville-Pickens, the team is looking to rebound and demonstrate the true potential of this Eddie Sharp Racing rookie.
"There's no doubt that we were a little disappointed about our finish at Greenville-Pickens, but it was a great learning experience for the entire team," said Goess. "We were in Loudon this week at the series open test. It was going quite well until we went skating into the wall when someone oiled the track down. The car was really fast and handled great. I'm looking forward to heading to Iowa this weekend and to bring home a much better finish for the team."
Goess and his Eddie Sharp Racing team spent Monday at the New Hampshire Speedway testing the No. 2 Greenville-Toyota Toyota Camry. Goess made an impressive display, spending most of the day near the top of the speed charts. Like most "could've-should've" moments, the team decided to make a few more mock qualifying runs before packing up for the day. It was at this time that the car in front of him leaked oil on the track. Goess quickly spun around and backed the No. 2 Camry into the outside wall.
"My guys have been working really hard on these cars," commented Goess. "The truck was supposed to go straight from New Hampshire to Iowa but now they have to take it back to North Carolina. I know they have a long week ahead of them now and I just want them to know that I that I really appreciate all their hard work."
This weekend marks only Goess' second stock car start in the NASCAR Camping World Series East.
"We tested earlier this season at Iowa with the other Eddie Sharp Racing teams," stated Goess. "It was a good test and I am really looking forward to returning to the track. I think we will be very strong this weekend."
