Jesus Hernandez Proving to be Best Diversity Graduate
Six Starts, Four Top-10 and Two Top-5 Finishes
Huntersville, N.C. (August 4, 2009) One of NASCAR's most successful Drive for Diversity graduates, Jesus Hernandez, continues his impressive 2009 season on the track. In his last event, Hernandez finished fourth at the Adirondack International Speedway this past Saturday in the Camping World East Series. The finish is his fourth top-10 in only six starts, moving his team owner, Troy Williams, into eighth in owner points. Hernandez, driving the Chivas/Telmex/Z-Line Designs Dodge, now has two top-five finishes this season in a series that boasts teams and drivers affiliated with Joe Gibbs Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing and others.
"We are finding a lot of success on the track right now," said Hernandez. "We're working hard to find the same success with some partners for 2010 off it as well. I'm looking for the opportunity to move up into a full ARCA or NASCAR Craftsman Truck schedule. Right now, we're looking to find that right company that wants to build a Hispanic marketing program around the sport. All we can do is keep running up front to get the word out."
The 27-year-old driver will finish out the 2009 Camping World East Series season for Troy Williams with Sean Watts Racing. With only three races remaining, Hernandez is confident in a strong finish and hopes to contend for a victory in the races to come. Lime Rock Park is next on the schedule, where Hernandez has some quality seat time after participating in the 2008 Test and Tune after the repaving.
"I know winning a race will really help my efforts for next season," added Hernandez. "I've liked racing at Lime Rock and looking forward to the next race."
Hernandez is competing in his third season in the Camping World East Series and is also a current employee and test driver for Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing.
