BECHTELSVILLE, PA MARCH 8, 2001 . . . Donny Erb is ready to forget the "Murphy's Law" season he had at Grandview Speedway last year. The 42-year-old stock car racer said, "Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong during the season. We want to get off to a strong start this year and run consistently."
Erb has a brand new race car, a top-of-the-line Olsen chassis creation with power from Davey George Racing Engines. The 18-year veteran of NASCAR Modified stock car racing competition at Grandview Speedway would like nothing better than to get the season off to a big start with a victory in the 39-lap NASCAR Modified feature race that will be part of the season opening tripleheader on Saturday, April 7. Racing for the three division show, featuring Modifieds, Late Models and PA Sportsman, will get started at 5 p.m.
"It got so bad last year that some of the crew members were questioning my driving ability. We had a lot of fuel pump problems. And there were a lot of wrecks. When you are not running well, running slow, you are in the way, and that gets you into a lot of wrecks. At Grandview you can not afford to be running slow," said Erb.
The father of one (Keeanu, 7) is excitd about the new season. The new car is done. He is anxious to get the season started. Erb will have the car out for the annual free-to- the-public practice session set for Grandview Speedway on Saturday, March 31, 12 noon.
"Competition at Grandview Speedway is going to be tough this season. It always is. And this year there may be some guys coming to race that have not been regulars in the past. But I think we are ready to give them all a good run," said the Douglassville resident.
Sponsorship support for the Donny Erb racing effort will come from Zartek Alarms, Reid Auto & Truck Service, Jr. Schell Trucking, B.C. Fabrication, Davey George Racing Engines, and Chromate Industrial Corporation.
Crew help comes from Gary, Bill, Rick, Jimmy and Brian. Without them, as Donny points out, none of this would be possible.
"Barry Burkhart and all the people at Burkhart Racing Equipment have been a big help to us. They are some of the nicest people we have ever worked with," said the popular racer.
The new season gets the green flag, officially, at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, at Grandview Speedway. Donny Erb is anxious to forget the "Murphy's Law" season of last year and put an "Erb's Law" season in the record books.
Racers are reminded that the pit office at Grandview Speedway will be open each Saturday during the month of March from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. NASCAR licenses will be available.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, 10 miles north of Pottstown, in Bechtelsville, PA. For race information telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
