Las Vegas, NV, May 6 – The 3/8-mile paved oval at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was alive with racing action Saturday night as Dick Cobb led all Late Model competitors. Cobb dominated the Late Model main event after finding his way to the front of the field on lap seven. Cobb passed Joe Kirsch on the backstretch following a restart after a caution. “The car worked really good tonight,” said Cobb. “We made a decision to change the right front spring before the race. It made all the difference in the world.” Cobb managed to maintain his race lead due to a series of great restarts. “Tonight I was fortunate not to make any mistakes,” said Cobb. “You just have to go for it on the restarts.” With a strong second place finish Scott Gafforini was able to move into the Late Model points lead, dropping Chuck Trickle to second. In Grand American Modified competition Jerry Walton was able to capture his first win of the season. “We fought adversity all week long,” said Walton. “Our engine builder built this motor in only 28-hours. The car was good, it handled like a dream tonight.” Other winners were Kyle Busch in the Legends Cars main event, Keith Danser in the Charger division, Mark Schottmuller in Mini Stocks and Joey Mogar in the Bandoleros main event.
