WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (March 26, 2001) -- Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell came up one position shy of earning a trip to victory lane Saturday night in limited late model stock action at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C.

After a strong qualifying effort that earned Campbell the fourth starting position, he had worked his way into second by lap two. Campbell's No. 55 Hayes Jewelers Chevrolet Monte Carlo showed its strength on long green flag runs. The event, however, was slowed several times by caution flags and Campbell wound up settling for runner-up honors.

"I am very pleased with our finish tonight," Campbell said. "We had the wrong transmission gear in and were getting beat on the restarts. I think if we had had a long green flag run there at the end, I might have had something for them."

"I want to thank George Taylor (team owner) and everyone at Taylor Motorsports for providing me with the opportunity to drive a competitive racecar," he said. "I'm looking forward to getting back behind the wheel again soon."
