Busch Grand National North Series
Saturday, August 14, 1999
The following drivers were involved in incidents during the Pepsi 150 Busch North Series race:
Butch Cone, (#64 BC Racing Chevrolet) - "I was just racing hard through turn one. The track is still cold, the tires were still cold, and we got up into the white part of the track, the white paint. Got a little loose and just spun it around. The rest is history."
Greg Schaefer, (#99 Rite-Way Electric Chevrolet) - "I was coming down the backstretch in fourth gear and broke getting into the inner-loop. I downshifted to third and the rear-end just locked up and I went for a ride in the grass there."
Bill Penfold (#0 VIP Charter Coach Chevrolet) - "We came off the one turn and got a little bit loose and got into the grass where it's so wet. I tried to recover, but it snapped back on me, and there was no stopping it. Once your there in the grass, you're there for the slide."
Joe Pezza, (#34 Guaranteed Overnight Delivery Chevrolet) - "A lugnut came off the left rear. Then we broke a rear gear. Something in the rear let go. You can see its still smoking. We can't buy a finish this year. I guess that's just racing."
Jeff Taylor (#88 Kemp Enterprises/Coca-Cola Ford) - "I broke the crankshaft and I broke part of the crank off and kicked the oil pump off and lost all oil pressure. I can't put that back together."
Jerry Marquis (#1 Wittenburg University Chevrolet) - I was doing good, moving up through the field, then the motor started skipping. We broke a lifter or something. We decided to bring it in before we wrecked somebody.
Top Finishers Notes
Bryan Wall, (#77 Burnham Boilers Ford) - "We had a great car, great off the truck, and it was great all day. The sponsors were here, so it was really special. I love this race, love the fans. This is one of my favorite tracks."
Ted Christopher (#13 Whelen Engineering Chevrolet) - "The goal for the weekend was to finish all these races and finish well, so I've done that here. We had a really good car."
Brad Leighton (#55 ITT Sheraton Chevrolet) - "The race was very good. We started the day points racing and that's how we ended it. We didn't really have a shot at the win. Bryan had just checked out. I didn't really race Ted too hard either, because those two points don't matter much in the big picture."
Andy Santerre (#44 Monro Muffler/Brake & Service Chevrolet) - "I didn't have enough. Bryan (Wall) had a good car. We had a decent car but fourth place was about all we had. At the beginning, we weren't exactly where we wanted to be but I made up for it and got a few spots at the end, so I'm pretty happy."
Ricky Craven (#23 Agree Shampoo and Conditioner Chevrolet) - "We started with such a deficit, you know, starting in the rear. But it was really good at the end and that is when it matters. We got into fifth, but I would have wanted those extra eight laps."
