Leighton Takes Busch North Race at Thompson

THOMPSON, Conn. (May 24, 2004) -- Brad Leighton put his faith in his Goodyear tires and that faith paid off. Leighton won the Pepsi Racing 150 for the NASCAR Grand National Division Busch North Series at Thompson Speedway.

Leighton, who scored his 22nd career BNS victory, did not pit during the chase around the 5/8-mile Thompson oval. The race was scheduled for 150 laps but was extended to 156 laps in order to ensure a green-flag finish. All told, the race went 97.5 miles.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider for the Busch North Series.

Mike Stefanik finished second, just .526 of a second behind the winner and now sits second to points leader Leighton in the standings. Leighton leads 328-325.

Dave Dion, Dale Quarterly and Ryan Moore capped the top five finishers in the race. The winner averaged 74.795 mph.

Moore won the Busch Pole Award with a lap of 108.255 mph.
