Travis Benjamin records sixteenth place finish at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Travis Benjamin's Irving Oil Ford Taurus team, which competes on the NASCAR Busch North Series, scored its best finish at the half-mile Stafford Motor Speedway when it finished sixteenth on Friday night. Benjamin's previous best finish at the Connecticut track was eighteenth, scored in the track's July race last year.

Benjamin had a bit of an uphill battle for the race after his qualifying effort left him 21st on the field of 30 cars.

"We're okay, I think," he said. "We changed a bunch of stuff before qualifying because the car was real tight, and right now it's real loose. I'm happy with that because it's something we want to try. 21st is better than we've ever qualified here before. We didn't have to take a provisional, I think last year every race here we had to take a provisional."

"I think we'll be okay," Benjamin continued. "The car's a little loose but I think the track is going to tighten up some, I think we'll be decent."

Benjamin was quickly in the top twenty once the race started, running in the seventeenth position on lap 50. The leaders were coming, though, and shortly afterward, Benjamin was put a lap down. He pitted under caution on lap 95 to put on fresh tires and make chassis adjustments, and ran strongly through the balance of the race to finish sixteenth, one lap down.

"At the beginning I thought we had a real good car, but we made a bunch of changes and I guess we didn't really know what the car was going to do," he said after the race. "It did what we expected it to do, and it was a decent car. We got sixteenth, that's staying consistent. We didn't wreck the car and we brought it home in one piece. I'm happy with that and we'll go to Holland.

"We've come a long ways," Benjamin continued. "We made one big change last week and I really like that. It's something I think we needed to do for a couple weeks now, and we finally did it. But we did so much to compensate for it, I think we have to go back a little bit. All of last year we finished in the top twenty here. We've got notes for the notebook now, we have two more trips here this year, and we'll get this car ready for Holland and hopefully keep consistent."

Benjamin now rides seventeenth in series points after six of nineteen races. Next up is a 150-lap contest at the Holland Speedway in Holland, New York, where Benjamin finished 21st.
