Ryan Moore Finishes Stafford Fifteenth Due to Brake Failure
(Stafford Springs, Conn. - June 18, 2004) - The Moore Racing Team traveled to Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut this past weekend for some Friday night racing. The weather was hot and humid throughout the day, but that didn't prevent NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series sophomore Ryan Moore from performing up to par. He was consistently eleventh fastest throughout the one hour and thirty minute practice session. Qualifying began at 5:00 p.m. and Moore went out among the first cars. He ran a time of 20.061 seconds, putting in the 7th starting spot.
Moore's R.C. Moore Transportation/Bill Dodge Auto Group/Shell Rotella T Chevrolet seemed to be running great at first. Within the first twenty laps of the race, he had moved up to fourth place. He did not get to enjoy his top-five position for long, though, for on lap forty, Moore came on the radio to report his brakes were failing. He slowly began to drift backwards. Trouble struck on lap 87 when the brakes failed completely and Moore was heading into the third turn at speed. His No. 74 car spun around, knocking the rear end into the outside wall. The result was rear body damage and Moore headed to pit road for adjustments and a tire change.
The Moore Racing Team did all they could to help the condition of the car and sent Moore back out. Knowing the brakes had failed, Moore had to race with extreme caution, letting off the gas through each corner. He did what he could and stuck it out through the remainder of the race. He knew the leader of the race was father, Kelly Moore, and at the wave of the checkered he would still have something to celebrate. Ryan achieved a fifteenth place finish, which was acceptable considering the circumstances. Moore got to Victory Lane as soon as the race was over to celebrate with his family and teammates. Ryan would like to congratulate his Dad and the 47 team and an outstanding victory.
Next weekend will find the Moore Racing team heading west to Holland International Speedway in Holland, N.Y. for a Saturday evening race.
