SCHEDULE: Friday, July 26
3:00-4:30 p.m. Practice
6:00 p.m. Bud Pole Qualifying (pos. 1-25)
9:00 p.m. (approx.) NASCAR 150
NOTES OF INTEREST
* Last year's NASCAR 150 was the final act in Martin Truex Jr.'s July run which saw him win two of three races sandwiched around a second place finish while leading almost 75% of the laps during the month. Truex led the last 125 laps of the NASCAR 150, outrunning Mike Olsen, Kelly Moore, Tracy Gordon, and Dennis Demers. Ted Christopher was the Bud Pole winner, but lasted only 25 laps and placed 29th in the 30-car field.
* Just five weeks ago, Kelly Moore won his second straight Carquest 150 at Stafford, taking the lead from Dale Shaw on lap 107. Andy Santerre, Dale Quarterley, Bryon Chew, and Dave Dion were second through fifth as Shaw declined to pit and held on for sixth. It was Chew's first career top five finish. Matt Kobyluck suffered a blown engine and was 23rd, his first time out if the top five in 2002.
* Kelly Moore set the current Stafford track record in June 2001 with a lap at 19.674 seconds, 91.491 mph. Under extremely hot conditions, Martin Truex Jr. won the Bud Pole for the 2002 Carquest 150 at 19.72 seconds, 91.278 mph. It is the only time in the 2002 Busch North Series that the track qualifying record has not been broken.
* Stafford Motor Speedway has hosted 18 previous Busch North Series races. Andy Santerre, Mike Stefanik, Brad Leighton, and Kelly Moore are the only two time winners. One-time victors are Tommy Houston, Mike McLaughlin, Keith Lamell, Tom Bolles, Jerry Marquis, Rick Fuller, Dennis Demers, Ted Christopher, Mike Johnson, and Martin Truex Jr.
STAT OF THE WEEK
Brad Leighton's win at NHIS last weekend gave Burnham Boilers its 19th victory as a Busch North Series sponsor. Mike Stefanik, Bryan Wall, and Leighton have shared in those wins. Tic Tac is second with 16 sponsor wins contributed by four drivers- Tom Rosati, Robbie Crouch, Kelly Moore, and Tracy Gordon. Tied for third with 12 are the Berlin City Ford/Continental Paving combination and SpeeDee Oil Change, all produced by Dave Dion and Ricky Craven, respectively.
