Bill Penfold prepares for May race at NHIS - signs sponsors for race
Bill Penfold and the Penfold Motorsports Team were on hand at New Hampshire International Speedway last week testing for the Busch 100 BNS race to be held there on May 8th. It will be the series first of four visits to NHIS in 1999. It will also be the first time the team uses their super speedway car in 1999.
"We did a lot of work to this car over the winter," said crew chief Bob Harrison. "We have a new Wegner motor and we learned a lot about the shocks. This car was good enough to run up front last season and with the times we were running in practice today, I think we have a car very capable of winning the race."
The Penfold Motorsports Team was one of many that participated in the three-day test at NHIS. Other drivers there included former series champions Kelly Moore, Dale Shaw and Dave Dion. There were a couple crashes during the practice session, but none while Penfold was on the track.
"The car was great out there," Bill said. "The VIP Charter - neracing.com Monte Carlo kept getting faster and faster every time out. We were one of the quicker cars on Tuesday, and we never even got to try our qualifying set-up. Rain came in late in the day and we decided not to risk going back out and getting caught in a shower. We saw some other teams tear up some equipment. Our car was running too good to risk any damage to it. We'll have a great car for the race."
Penfold finished 8th in this event last season and notched another top ten there in August when he led many laps of the nationally televised race.
The Penfold Motorsports Team was also very happy to announced at Loudon that they will have two more sponsors on the car for the May 8th race. The Kennebunk - Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce and Old Time Garage have signed up as sponsors with the team.
The friendly folks at Kennebunk - Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce (KKCC) in Maine are excited about participating in this televised event. Whatever your interest, be it Eco, Nature, Adventure, Historic, or Cultural Travel, the Kennebunks have it all (the mystique of the Maine Coast & miles of sandy beaches) and they want to share it with you! Old Time Garage is a small family owned chain of garages with locations in Needham and Newton Massachusetts. The Hurwitz brothers established Old Time Garage in 1978. They offer full service, sales and a wide variety of repair services at both Old Time Garage locations.
The Penfold Team is very happy to have two great business's like KKCC and Old Time Garage come on board for this big event at NHIS.
"We are thrilled to have the fine people at the Kennebunk - Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce and Old Time Garage join up with us at Loudon," said team manager Ray Penfold. "We now have five sponsors on the car and expect to make another announcement later in the week. Things are really going well for this team. I think we will make all these sponsors very happy at NHIS. We will be bringing a car that can run up front and win."
There will be an autograph session at NHIS on Friday, May 7th under the main grand stands. Fans are encouraged to come by and meet Bill and get an autographed postcard. There are plenty of seats available for the race on May 8 as well.
