Bill Penfold Claims 12th place award at BNS Banquet
Bill Penfold and the Penfold Motorsports Team were on hand in Nashua, New Hampshire over the weekend for the NASCAR Busch North Series banquet and awards ceremony. The entire team was on hand to see Bill take to the stage to accept his 12th place finish award, the highest finish in the team's four-year history.
After the awards ceremony was over, Bill remarked on the success of the team.
"This was quite a season for us," said Penfold. "We had some ups and downs, but finished the season with more top tens than we have ever finished with and led a bunch of laps. We were one of the top five teams in laps completed at the end of the year, and that's what it takes to be successful in this series."
Bill praised the team for their hard work over the season.
"There is no way I could have done as well as I did with out this team. My crew chief, Bob Harrison has given me great cars to drive all year. He made some great calls during the season too, that made the difference. I can't say enough about the crew. They are all volunteers and they bust their butts every week to make sure we get the car to the track and keep me going. Brian (Thompson) and Eric (Lukacs) travel all the way from Pennsylvania each week, where ever we race. Mark (Grant) and Wayne (Wiggins) travel from New Hampshire. Randy (Huntley) George (Campbell) and Glen (Davis) have been a huge help in the pits. George has also helped with the media and sponsors. Kenny (Farley) and my dad have made me a better driver with their spotting. My whole family has been a huge help also, Shelly with scoring and Dutch and Mike around the shop."
Bill finished just 17 points out of tenth place in the season points standings.
"We had better equipment this season and it showed with the help of motors from Carl Wegner. We also had some sponsorship help from VIP Charters in Portland, Maine. Hewitt's Auto Body also helped keep our cars looking great and Cintas keep us looking good with our uniforms. We carried the NCT logo on our car for a few races too."
Bill also congratulated Mike Stefanik on his second straight championship season.
"Congratulations to Mike, he really had a great season. I am sure glad to see he will be driving in the truck series," Bill said with a smile, "now the rest of us will have a chance next season!"
The team manager, Ray Penfold was equally pleased with the team's season.
"We surprised some people this year, but we knew we could do it," said Penfold of the teams best ever finish. "We are already preparing for next season. Watch out for this team next year, we are going to be one of the top teams in 1999."
