Brad Leighton continues mastery of New Hampshire Intl Speedway with third straight win; takes Busch North Series point lead; Hoar career-best second.

LOUDON, N.H.-- Brad Leighton became the first driver ever to win three consecutive Busch North Series, NASCAR Touring races at New Hampshire International Speedway on Saturday afternoon. The New England 125 win was also his third of the 2002 season, the 20th of his career, and gave him the point lead as the series passed the halfway mark.

Brian Hoar, the Bud Pole winner and leader for most of the race, settled for a career best second place, 2.855 seconds behind Leighton. Matt Kobyluck, Martin Truex Jr., and Mike Johnson were third through fifth. Tim Andrews was sixth in his Busch North Series debut, trailed by Dave Dion, Bryon Chew, Paul Wolfe, and Dale Quarterley.

Leighton averaged 96.926 miles per hour as only four caution flags slowed the pace for 30 laps, and won $16,475. Eddie MacDonald led the first four laps, but Hoar then took command and headed all but five of the next 76 circuits. After pit stops were completed, however, the unorthodox call by Leighton's crew to take left side tires instead of rights proved the winning combination, as Leighton took the lead on lap 81 and was never challenged.

Two cars retired with accident damage, but both drove to the garage under their own power and no injuries were reported. A total of 31 cars were running at the finish, with 21 on the lead lap.

Making the day complete for Leighton, he recaptured the Busch North Series point lead by 43 markers over Kelly Moore, who finished 13th. Andy Santere, 12th in the New England 125, remains third, 67 points behind Leighton.
