Top-10 Finish For Ryan Moore At Holland
Holland, NY -- A long, hot trip to Western New York State turned out to be very tiresome. The Moore Racing Team hit the road early Friday morning to make the Saturday evening event. The team made the decision to bring along the car they would use later this season at Dover Downs, only with a different chassis. It was an idea to give the car a shot on a short track, but according to Ryan Moore it didn't work to their advantage.
"We weren't very good in practice, so we knew we had to make some changes," said Moore, "we exchanged everything we possibly could before time trials."
Moore gave qualifying his best shot and put his R.C. Moore Transportation/Bill Dodge Autogroup/GetEtched.com Monte Carlo 9th on the starting grid for the 150-lap event. Moore knew the race would be a challenge, but surely would be satisfied with a top-ten finish.
Moore took the green with a positive attitude, but it wasn't too far into the race his R.C. Moore Monte Carlo became tight. "The car was tight from the beginning, so it was difficult just to get the car to turn," said the 2003 rookie. He slowly began to fall back in the field.
The team made the decision to take advantage of a caution flag on lap 70 to make a pit stop for adjustments. Moore would go to the rear and slowly make his way back up through the field. "There was a lot of lapped traffic, so it was really a matter of being patient," said Ryan.
The young driver made his way back to the 9th spot, before time ran out. Although it was a hot, long and challenging afternoon, the Moore Racing Team managed to bring home a top-ten finish.
Crew Chief, Jamie Lorfano was sure to tell his driver how proud he was of his skills. "You had a 20-place car out there tonight...this 9th place finish was all driver."
The team spent Sunday evening relaxing, for 5 am Monday they were off to Loudon, NH for an open test. The team will travel to Lake Erie, PA for a July 9th race, after a holiday weekend.
