Dale Quarterley, Bully Hill Vineyards Team Up For NASCAR Showdown
(Westfield, Mass. - Nov. 4, 2004) - What started out as a friendly joke between competitors at a NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series race has expanded into more sponsorship for Westfield, Massachusetts' Dale Quarterley, who will pilot the Bully Hill Vineyards Chevrolet in the November 12-13 Toyota NASCAR All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, California.
Quarterley, who carried Bully Hill Sponsorship in selected NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch North Series races this year, was participating in the final West Series race of the year last month when he received an autograph from one of his competitors.
"We were doing the autograph session on the frontstretch before the race," Quarterley said. "Mike David had qualified right behind me and he's sponsored by a California winery. I was wearing my Bully Hill Vineyards suit and he came over and gave me an autograph card made out to my winery from his winery. Jokingly, we said that we needed to do something about this for the Showdown, east coast winery versus west coast winery. When I got back home, I told Lillyan Taylor at Bully Hill about this and she thought it was a good idea, so Bully Hill Vineyards will be on board with our team for the Showdown. There will be a battle of the wineries."
Bully Hill Vineyards and 1/4 LEY Racing have worked together for select Busch North races since midway through the 2003 season, and the combination has enjoyed success in those races.
"Bully Hill's been on board for the two road courses this year, and we finished second and third in those," Quarterley said. "They were on at Adirondack too, and we led that race, so every time Bully Hill's been on the car it's run up front. When you can have a sponsor that will help you get to the front, you definitely want them on board for the high-profile Showdown on live TV."
Quarterley's team has a big weekend ahead of it, starting Wednesday night, November 10th, with a street fair and pit stop competition on the grounds of Irwindale Speedway, which is located just outside Los Angeles. Thursday will have the team practicing for the Showdown at the track.
The Grand National part of the Showdown consists of a pair of 50-lap qualifying races Friday night, with a 125-lap feature race on Saturday night. Both nights' races will be broadcast live on SpeedTV, with Friday night's broadcast starting at 11:00pm Eastern time and Saturday's broadcast set for 8:00pm.
Bully Hill Vineyards is based in Hammondsport, N.Y. and distributes its fine wines throughout the eastern states and select western states. The company's Web address is www.bullyhill.com.
