Westfield, Massachusetts' Dale Quarterley, driving the #32 Land O Lakes Chevrolet on the NASCAR Busch North Series, entered the series' fifth race of the season, the PTM 150 at Scarborough, Maine's Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, ranked tenth in points. He finished in ninth place, his third top ten of the season, moving him into ninth in the season championship standings.

After early afternoon practice, Quarterley and the rest of the entrants prepared for qualifying, but halfway through time trials a thunderstorm moved in and washed out the balance of that part of the program. Quarterley had turned a lap of 15.906 seconds around the third-mile oval and stood third-best of the 19 cars that had attempted time.

With the field lined up by points standings, Quarterley started the race in tenth and worked his way to sixth in the early going before dropping back. A caution on lap 95 brought most of the lead lap cars to pit road, but Quarterley chose to stay on the track and when the race resumed, he was the leader.

Quarterley led 20 laps during the race's second half before being passed by cars with fresher tires. Still running competitively, Quarterley held on through two late restarts to finish ninth.

"We were struggling with the decision to stop for tires," he said after the race, "whether to pit and come back through with those who pitted, or stay where we were and let them come back to us. We figured either way we'd be eighth or ninth at the finish, and we figured we'd let the accidents come to us instead of us coming through the accidents, and that's exactly what happened. It was a good plan on our part.

"The crew guys at home have been doing a sensational job getting it ready so when we get here it's a couple of things to fine-tune and we're racing," Quarterley continued. "That part of the situation is going great, it's just not being able to find that one little piece to put me over the top. We're definitely honing in on it, but it's just finding it."

The next race for the Land O Lakes team is this Saturday night at Star Speedway, a quarter-mile oval located in Epping, New Hampshire.

"If we can just do what we're doing for a little while, if we can do what we're doing and finish, we're looking good points-wise and keeping ourselves in the hunt," Quarterley said. "Sooner or later we're going to find it and it'll come to us."
