Phillip Morris Wins His Way To The Lead In The Blue Ridge Region Of The Nascar Weekly Racing Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 18, 2001) - Phillip Morris of Ruckersville, Va., has moved into the top spot in the Competition Performance Index (CPI) standings in the Blue Ridge Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. Morris, who competes in the Late Model Stock Car division at New River Valley Speedway in Radford, Va., scored his 13th win of the season this past Saturday. The victory vaulted Morris over Wade Day of Blountville, Tenn., who won the regional crown last season, into the track championship point lead. Morris has 15 top-five and 17 top-ten finishes in 19 starts.

Mark Vineyard of Powell, Tenn., slipped to second in the regional standings. Vineyard, who competes in the NWRS dirt Late Model division at Atomic Motor Speedway in Knoxville, Tenn., has collected seven victories this season. Vineyard has 16 top-five and 18 top-ten finishes in 18 starts at the .333-mile dirt oval.

Todd Massey of Haw River, N.C., has jumped to third in the regional standings. Massey, who competes in the Late Model Stock Car division at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C., has earned seven victories this season. Massey has picked up 16 top-five and 18 top-ten finishes 20 starts.

Pete Silva of Leicester, S.C., Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, S.C.; Shane Chastain of Murrayville, Ga., Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, Ga.; Billy Hogan of Troy, N.C., Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C.; Jeff Berry of Fall Branch, Tenn., Galaxy Kingsport (Tenn.) Speedway; Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, N.C., Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., and Chuck Crump of Mt. Gilead, N.C., Concord (N.C.) Motorsport Park round out the top nine in the first tier of the Competition Performance Index (CPI) in the Blue Ridge Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series.

NASCAR officials have announced a seven-day modification to the current NASCAR Weekly Racing Series schedule regarding the conclusion of the point season, from September 16th to September 23rd. This modification has been granted to tracks which had events scheduled for last weekend and chose to postpone them due to the events of last week. The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series national championship will then be determined by a ranking of the regional champions using the Competition Performance Index (CPI). The top-50 drivers as rated by the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series CPI in the Atlantic Seaboard Region for the week of September 17 follow.
