KEITH HOFFMAN TAKES 1ST BIG DIAMOND '05 IN NASCAR MODIFIEDS; BILLY MOYER TOPS SPORTSMAN, BRENNAN GETS ROADRUNNER WIN

Minersville, PA -- May 6, 2005 -- Past champion Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, PA took his first win of the season at Big Diamond Raceway in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified 25-lap feature on Friday night. It was a sweep for first time 2005 winners as Billy Moyer, Jr. of Pine Grove, PA beat the field in the Sportsman-Modifieds while Elvin Brennan of Forestville, PA topped the Roadrunners.

Hoffman's Modified win came in the Johnny Rae owned, Fanelli Window Pros/Cocino Food Service Systems #1 Teo with Gechter Ford power. Hoffman started fifth and took the lead from Bobby Gunther Walsh (Allentown) on lap two. Hoffman saw point leader Duane Howard (Oley) move from fourteenth starting spot to second by lap eight. Even though Howard drew even with the leader several times on both the inside and the outside, Hoffman took the win over Howard. From lap 13 to the finish Jeff Strunk (Bethel) and Doug Hoffman (Allentown) swapped third spot on almost every lap with Doug edging Jeff at the finish. Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville) was fifth followed by Doug Manmiller (Wyomissing), last week's winner Craig Von Dohren (Oley), Paul Kline (Reading), Shawn Fitzpatrick (Pottsville) and Jeff Sechrist (Wernersville).

Billy Moyer, Jr. ended a long drought in the Sportsman feature, which was shortened to 16-laps by time limit. Moyer started second and overtook pole-sitter Louie Mitchalk (Tamaqua) on lap two to go on to the win. Gary Wagner, Jr. (Womelsdorf) came from fifteenth on the initial start to second on lap 13 but was settled for second followed by Ryan Moyer (Schuylkill Haven), Tom Brennan (Pottsville), Craig Whitmoyer (Hamburg), Luke Wagner (Grantville), Greg Weiland (Port Carbon), Mitchalk, Ray Woodall, Jr. (Pen Argyl) and Brad Brightbill (Shillington).

Butch Solt (Lehighton) took the early roadrunner lead with Kevin Holland (Pine Grove) going on top on lap two. Holland saw Tom Hablett (Schuylkill Haven) take over on lap 10. Holland stayed with Hablett and made contact with the leader on the final lap. Hablett spun and Holland crossed the finish line first but the next in line, Elvin Brennan was given the win over Jake Smulley (Phoenix Park), last week's winner Jason Sherman (Williamstown), rookie Ryan Olenick (Forestville) and Dave Schultz (Llewellyn).

Heat winners were Jeff Strunk, Bobby Gunther Walsh and Keith Hoffman in the Modifieds; Billy Moyer, Jr., Jason Hamilton (Erwinna) and 93 Ryan Moyer in the sportsman modifieds; and Tom Hablett and Kevin Holland in the Roadrunners. Ray Woodall, Jr. took the sportsman consolation.

The entire show, which started at 8PM, was completed by 10:40 PM.

Next week, the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds and Roadrunners will be joined for the first time ever at Big Diamond by the 600cc Modifieds on Friday, May 13, at 8 PM as part of NAPA Auto Parts Night. One week later the ARDC Midgets take off the wings and join the NASCAR trio of divisions on Friday, May 20, with the midgets going in two 20-lap features and no heats. The 600 Mods and the ARDC Midgets will get the opportunity to get some track time this Tuesday night, May 6, at 7:15 at Big Diamond's next open practice along with modifieds, sportsman modifieds, roadrunners, pro stocks, sprints, and other divisions.
