Minersville, PA - August 10 - Numerous heavy rain storms washed-out the racing action on Friday night (Aug. 10) at Big Diamond Raceway featuring the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Modifieds, NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman and the NASCAR Roadrunners. The entire three-division card, including Twin 20-lap feature events for the Modifieds, will be run next Friday, August 17 at 8PM,

The Super Sportsman event, rained-out last week (August 3), has been rescheduled for Friday night, September 7. No further details are now available regarding the other divisions to be included on that added race date to the 2001 schedule. Rain checks from the August 3rd event will be honored on August 17, 24 and now also on September 7 at the ticket's face value at Big Diamond Raceway with credit given or payment required for differences in the admission price. The night will again be West Side Wood Products/Dark 'n Go Tanning Salon Night.

The point race for Big Diamond's NASCAR WRS Modifieds looks like a three-man showdown between Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, PA, Duane Howard of Oley, PA, and Craig Von Dohren of Barto, PA, but Terry Meitzler of Kutztown, PA; Ray Swinehart of Bechtelsville, PA; Jeff Strunk of Bethel, PA; Kyle Weiss of Hamburg, PA and Glenn Strunk (Bechtelsville, PA) remain within striking distance. The battle holds even more importance as each of the lead trio hold sufficiently high ratings in the Northeast Region of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series to contend for the regional point championship.

Hoffman currently holds an 84-point margin over Howard (2221 to 2137) with Von Dohren only another 29 points back at 2108. If they wish to remain in the hunt, the time for Swinehart (1855), Meitzler (1814), Jeff Strunk (1793), Weiss (1781) and Glenn Strunk (1755) is now. They need to make a big move now with only four more point races left including the two this weekend.

The Twin-20s program now to be run this Friday replaces the originally scheduled 50-lapper to better position Modified drivers to achieve the 18 point races standard for the Weekly Racing Series Northeast Region championship. Currently the modifieds have completed 13 point races. (The August 3 and 10 rain-outs now further complicates the formula and an additional change will need to be made to achieve the 18 race minimum.) Each feature event at Big Diamond carries 200 points to win, 75 points for last and 70 points for non-qualifiers. If the track champion does not complete 18 events he will still be eligible for regional prizes but his rating component averages which determine his final rank will be seriously reduced as they will be averaged with a divisor of 18 rather than the driver's actual total races run.

The octet of modified stars already listed here are by no means the only top-notch drivers in action in the modifieds at Big Diamond. Among the other competitors are Steve Bottcher (Lehighton, Pa), Barry Readinger (Fleetwood, PA), Meme DeSantis (Temple, PA), Jim Hauer (Lebanon, PA), Dennis Bailey (Kutztown, PA), Larry Kelleher (Scranton, PA), Tim Fitzpatrick (Branchdale, PA), Craig Whitmoyer (Hamburg, PA) and many more.
