Minersville, PA - May 31 - Heavy rain hit Big Diamond Raceway on Friday night at about 7:30 forcing the racing card scheduled to get underway at 8 o'clock to be canceled. Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners, scheduled to compete in action under the banner of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge, will return Friday, June 7, for True Value Hardware Night hoping the weather will be more favorable.

In other news, last week's apparent Sportsman winner, Andy Fayash, Jr. of Mary-D, PA, did not have an inspected and sealed engine in his 157. An appointment was made with inspectors for them to tear down, inspect and seal the engine during the week. An inconsistency was found within the engine during the tear down. Inspectors deemed it to be inconsistent with the rules but not performance enhancing.

A portion of the first prize money was withheld from Fayash as a fine and to cover costs for the mid-week efforts of track inspectors to inspect the unsealed engine. The money collected from the fine will be added to this week's Sportsman feature payoff. From the point of view of championship points, Fayash was dropped from 1st place to 26th place in the final order of finish with all others moving up one position for points. Ed Scott of New Tripoli, PA, who challenged Fayash heavily throughout the feature event, has been awarded the feature win in the Devine Transport 002 and all other feature competitors were move up one position in the new, official finishing order for the May 24th event.

The season point races at Big Diamond Raceway, Duane Howard of Oley, PA leads the NASCAR Modified Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge points after five races by a slim ten point margin over defending champion, Keith Hoffman of Whitehall, PA, and Hoffman is only ten points ahead of third place Meme DeSantis of Temple, PA. Completing the top five are Craig Von Dohren of Barto, PA in the Mrs. T's Pierogies 114 and Terry Meitzler of Kutztown, PA.

Scott Singley of Milford, NJ and Craig Whitmoyer of Hamburg, PA appear to be set on making the Sportsman title run a two man show with Singley currently in front by a twenty point margin over Whitmoyer. Completing the top five are Billy Moyer, Jr. of Pine Grove, PA, and the Lehighton boys, Jesse Sterling and Donn Edgar. Work and family commitments will keep Donn Edgar from being a regular for the remainder of the season but he plans to at very least be back for the Sunday night special events for the sportsman.

Doug Hendricks of Auburn, Pa threatens to make the roadrunner point race a runaway as he has four wins in five starts and lead second place Dave Winslow of Fleetwood, PA by 100 and Rodney Ulsh of Summit Station by 105.
