Rain delays Coal Cracker 100 to Monday at Big Diamond; $10,000 to win 100 lapper reset for Monday, Sept. 2, at 5:30 pm.

Minersville, PA - September 1, 2002 - Big Diamond Raceway officials have been forced by rain to delay tonight's Coal Cracker 100 for Modifieds to tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 2). The 23rd running of the Coal Cracker Modified 100 paying $10,000 will now go off on Labor Day at 5:30 PM, a time selected to permit school students and working adults to attend the high speed affair and get enough sleep Monday night.

The Monday super card will also include the Roadrunner Coal Cracker 20. Gates will open at 2:30PM.

The 100 was moved to Sunday during the off-season after last year's Friday rain-out forced the track to run the 100 on Sunday, Labor Day eve. There seemed to be fewer conflicts with other tracks and both the field of cars and the crowd was good. The logic was sound but the weather did not cooperate and now the event will go to the post early Monday evening.

The top five Friday finishers at Big Diamond, Meme DeSantis, Duane Howard, Keith Hoffman, Craig Von Dohren and Kyle Weiss have already qualified for the 100 and will draw with 15 or 16 Sunday heat qualifiers for starting spots in the 100. A C-Main/B-Main format will add a minimum of five more starters with past Coal Cracker winners added to the field. Additional B-main cars will be taken to provide a minimum 30-car starting field.

Additionally, past winners of the Coal Cracker Classic are eligible to be guaranteed starters at the rear of the 100 field if they attempt to but are unable to qualify. Included in the list of past winning Coal Cracker drivers that are eligible for this guaranteed status are Duane Howard, Craig Von Dohren, Rick Schaffer, Jeff Strunk, Paul Koch, Billy Pauch, Kenny Brightbill, Doug Hoffman, Tom Mayberry, Richie Tobias and Fred Rahmer.

Twenty-nine competitors have already paid their entry fees for the 100 which is double the normal number of early entries for this event. One of the biggest fields of racers is expected for the 100 this year. The drivers already registered are Jason Andrews, Rodney Beltz, Joe Biasi, Jr., Steve Bottcher, Meme DeSantis, Bob Ebersole, Jeff Ebersole, Shawn Fitzpatrick, Tim Fitzpatrick, Jack Hartnett, Kevin Hartnett, Keith Hoffman, Duane Howard, Ron Mawson, Jr., Terry Meitzler, Billy Pauch, Tom Pompei, Barry Readinger, Shawn Reimert, Rick Schaffer, Larry Solomon, Craig Von Dohren, Ryan Watt, Kyle Weiss, Craig Whitmoyer, Bobby Gunther Walsh and Bruce Williams.

The Roadrunner 20 lap feature will be open to Big Diamond and Selinsgrove legal cars with Selinsgrove cars forced to start behind the Big Diamond legal cars in the main event.
