Veteran crew chief Ernie Cope to leave JR Motorsports
Ernie Cope will leave JR Motorsports at the end of the season.
Cope, who is currently the crew chief for defending Xfinity Series champion Chase Elliott, will join JTG/Daugherty Motorsports as Competition Director.
Motorsport.com broke the news earlier this week that Kevin Meandering, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s engineer on the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports team is moving to JRM as the crew chief for Elliott Sadler.
Cope has worked with a variety of teams as a crew chief over the last 13 seasons and earned 15 wins in the NXS and nine in the Camping World Truck Series. He worked for JTGD team owner Tad Geschickter in what is now the XFINITY Series with Stacy Compton in 2006 and Marcos Ambrose in 2007.
The 46-year-old Tacoma, Wash. native started his racing career behind the wheel. He competed in four different NASCAR tours from 1991 to 1996 including the Southwest Serie, K&N Pro Series West (where he posted two wins in 1995), the Camping World Truck Series and one Cup start here in Phoenix.
