Texas Motor Speedway Debut: John Wes Townley will attempt to make his first career start at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend in the O'Reilly Challenge. Townley and the No. 09 team were unable to test the 1.5-mile oval in preparation for this event.
2009 Announcement: RAB Racing and Zaxby's announced last Friday that they will extend their relationship through 2009 with Zaxby's serving as the primary sponsor of the No. 09 Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The 2009 season will once again feature driver, John Wes Townley as pilot of the Zaxby's Ford Fusion as he makes the step up to a full-time Nationwide schedule.
The Last Time Around-Memphis: Townley and the No. 09 team attempted to make their Memphis Motorsports Park debut in the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 last Saturday, October 25th. After posting the 21st fastest lap in final practice, Townley's lap was not fast enough to make the field.
This Week's Zaxby's Ford at Texas: Crew Chief Blake Bainbridge has chosen chassis No. 024 for Townley's Texas Motor Speedway debut. This is a previous Matt Kenseth chassis from the Roush Fenway Racing stables and was previously run in 2008 at Dover International Speedway (33rd) and Lowe's Motor Speedway (27th).
What the team has to say:
John Wes Townley, driver of the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford: "We made our announcement for 2009 last weekend, so I am really excited to move forward with my team and focus on the job at hand; gain as much experience possible, make races and log laps".
"I'm looking forward to my first race at Texas Motor Speedway. We didn't get a chance to test there, but I have heard that Texas is very similar to Lowe's Motor Speedway and we had a decent run there earlier this month."
Blake Bainbridge, crew chief of the No. 09 Zaxby's Ford: "The entry list for the O'Reilly Challenge this weekend is impressive and it will be no doubt a tough race to make. I do however, feel confident in the chassis we are bringing this weekend; it is the same car we raced at Dover and Charlotte and had good runs at both tracks".
