Roush signs Gray Gaulding for two Xfinity races
Gray Gaulding will have the opportunity to audition for Roush Fenway Racing in two XFINITY Series races later this year.
Gaulding is scheduled to make his NXS debut at Bristol Motor Speedway on August 19. The 18-year-old Colonial Heights, Va. native will also pilot the No. 60 Ford for RFR at his hometown track — Richmond International Raceway on September 9. Although a sponsor has not been named, the driver has a personal services contract with Krispy Kreme.
The former NASCAR Next driver most recently competed in the Camping World Truck Series. In 13 career Truck starts, Gaulding has one top-five finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park where he started on the front row in 2014 and finished fourth. Last year Gaulding’s best result was 10th in a Kyle Busch Motorsports truck at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Gaulding competed in both the K&N Pro Series East and West divisions. His sole win came at Phoenix International Raceway where he dumped polesitter Cole Custer, who had led every lap until the final circuit. In two full seasons of KNPSE competition, Gaulding’s best finish was third in the 2014 standings behind Ben Rhodes and Cameron Haley.
In 2015, Gaulding ran the first eight races of the KNPSE schedule. He posted four top fives, five top 10s and had an average finish of 8.8. Gaulding also made his ARCA debut this year at Daytona International Speedway the No. 38 Ford for Carlos Lira and finished ninth.
Roush Fenway has not assigned a crew chief for Gaulding.
