Roush Fenway protege Ty Majeski prepares for Xfinity debut

Three-time ARCA Midwest Tour champ and NASCAR Next driver Ty Majeski will revive the No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford this weekend in the Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway.

Majeski will carry the iRacing livery on his car and the sponsor is quite fitting since Majeski is currently the top-rated iRacing driver in the world. He’s logged 830 wins in 1,112 starts.

And with the history of the No. 60 Ford, which includes three championships and holds the series’ record of 93 wins, Majeski hopes to add to the car’s legacy.

“I’m excited about the debut,” Majeski said. “Hopefully, we can have a good, clean run.”

The No. 6 NXS team, which crew chief Seth Barbour led to fourth in the NXS point standings with Darrell "Bubba" Wallace, will support Majeski’s efforts this weekend at the .875-mile track.

Majeski, 22, who is working on his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has honed his hands-on skills inside Roush Fenway Racing’s aerodynamic and shock departments.

“It’s helped me a ton — particularly with the crew,” Majeski said. “It makes them feel like I am one of them, just not another driver that comes into the shop. I’m invested. I’m investing my time. It shows my determination — and I think that goes a long way in the shop. I’ve become really close with a lot of the guys at Roush-Fenway. And I’m having a ton of fun doing it.

“I’m looking forward to what the future holds for sure."

Majeski leaned on Ricky Stenhouse Jr. — a former Iowa winner — for his behind-the-wheel knowledge prior to his test last month at Iowa Speedway. He also spent time in the Ford Performance simulator to hone his skills in the Mustang.

“It was good,” Majeski said. “To have the opportunity to get in the type of car I’ll be driving at a race track I’ve never been at and get some seat time and make some improvements on the car is huge.As everyone knows, NASCAR testing is so limited and to get everything you can out of it is so crucial. I really felt we did that.

“Unfortunately, Iowa isn’t on the simulator, but I’ve worked with a lot of the engineers and worked on my feedback, help them work on my feedback I’m really optimistic about it.”

Prior to the weekend, Majeski drove the No. 99 Cunningham Motorsports Ford at Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Raceway to sharpen his skills in the car and on pit road. He scored top-10 results in both races.

Mark Martin, who holds the record with 39 wins in the No. 60 Ford, is impressed with Majeski’s potential.

“With Ty Majeksi, I think Roush Fenway may have the one,” Martin said. “I think he is Roush Fenway’s next Matt Kenseth or Carl Edwards. I think they are sitting good with him as a young driver developing. I’ll be watching with great interest.”
