Road America to Host Inaugural NASCAR Nationwide Series Race
Elkhart Lake, WI, June 12, 2010 - The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) will hold its inaugural race at Road America, June 19, 2010, in the Bucyrus 200 Presented by Menards. The 50-lap race on Road America's undulating, 4-mile, 14-turn circuit will challenge the road-racing skills of NNS drivers whose 35-race schedule includes just three road courses. Fans will witness a dynamic level of competition between drivers new to the circuit and a group of notable road-racing specialists including past Road America race winners Tony Ave, Ron Fellows, Patrick Long, Paul Menard and Jacques Villeneuve.
The four-day event schedule includes NNS practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, June 17-18. NNS qualifying will be held Saturday morning, with pre-race festivities beginning at 11:00 a.m. Seven big screens are located at key viewing areas. In addition, SCCA Pro Racing MX-5 Cup, SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series and the Mid-American Stock Car Series will hold practice and qualifying sessions with final races on Sunday, June 20th. Weekend fan activities include spectator camping, concession karting, the Nashville To You Country Concert, Friday; and Track Touring on Sunday, in which fans can drive their own vehicles around the legendary track.
All tickets include free parking, open grandstand seating and access to the support series paddock areas. Kids 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Daily admission is $25 Thursday, $30 Friday, $75 Saturday and $35 Sunday. Pre-registration for Sunday's track touring is required, with a per car fee of $55 plus daily ticket admission. On-site camping and karting also require additional fees. Gates open at 7 a.m. and all races, including the NNS race, will run rain or shine.
On Wednesday, June 16th, fans are invited to a NNS Team Hauler Party at Times Printing Company on Hwy. 57 in Random Lake, WI, 3:00-5:30 p.m. A brat fry fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the party, to benefit area fire departments. The party will be held rain or shine. At 5:30 p.m. the rigs will depart Random Lake in convoy to Road America, following Hwy. 57 north to Cty. Rd. J, then west to Hwy. 67.
