In anticipation of next season, two of RCR’s Xfinity teams will have different crew chiefs on top of their pit boxes this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Nick Harrison, who has been with Ty Dillon for a season and a half, will trade places with Mike Hillman Jr. Dillon, 24, finished third in the standings last year, but failed to transfer out of the first round of the inaugural Xfinity Series Chase. The No. 2 team’s overall results have diminished as well. After posting a career-best 12 top fives and 25 top 10s in 2015, this year Dillon tallied eight top fives and 16 top 10s. He has been winless over the last two seasons and is currently eighth in the standings.
Harrison will oversee the No. 33 team and driver Brandon Jones. The 19-year-old Atlanta, Georgia native competed in his first full Xfinity season in 2016. Jones has 12-top 10 finishes and is currently ninth in the standings. His best result was sixth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March.
Crew chief Justin Alexander, who was moved from RCR’s No. 27 Cup team to the No. 2 All-Star Xfinity team with Austin Dillon, Paul Menard, Regan Smith, Michael McDowell and Sam Hornish Jr., will stay the course with that team. Alexander led the No. 2 crew to victories at Bristol with Dillon and McDowell at Elkhart Lake this season.
Brendan Gaughan’s long-time crew chief Shane Wilson will also stay the course. The team qualified for the first two rounds of the Chase but were eliminated at Phoenix.
Following the announcement that Matt Borland had joined RCR and will take over crew chief duties on the No. 27 Menard’s team with driver Paul Menard, the team revealed that Danny Stockman Jr. would be aligned with Daniel Hemric in 2017.
