EDWARDS DOMINATES FOR THE WIN IN PHOENIX
Avondale, Ariz. (Nov. 13, 2010) -- Driving the No. 60 Copart.com Ford, Carl Edwards led the field three different times for a total of 153 laps at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday. Edwards went on to earn his fourth NASCAR Nationwide Series win at Phoenix and back-to-back Nationwide victories after last week's win in Texas. Today's win is Edwards' fourth win of the season and his 29th career NASCAR Nationwide Series win.
"This was the best race car I've ever had," Edwards said. "This car was so easy to drive and fast in the corners. I've really got to thank Mike Beam, Jack Roush and the guys back in the shop who built the car. I'm really blessed to have the crew that I have, every one of our stops today were great."
Coming off of a victorious week in Texas, the Copart.com crew did not waste any time getting the car ready for Friday's practice sessions. Unloading the same car that Edwards ran earlier this season at Gateway, Dover and Bristol, Edwards finished the first practice session second. Veteran crew chief Mike Beam and team-owner Jack Roush felt that the car was good enough for Edwards to sit out the second practice session to focus on his Sprint Cup Series qualifying later Friday afternoon where he managed to win the pole award for Sunday's race. J Edwards continued to show his strength for his Nationwide Series qualifying run where he sat on the provisional pole, but was eventually pushed down one spot by Joey Logano.
Starting second for today's race, it took Edwards little time to move to the lead. With the handling of the car right where he needed it to be, he focused on hitting his marks and maintaining his lead. Edwards brought the No. 60 into the pits three times today where the crew made only slight adjustments and were able to maintain his on track position.
With only three laps remaining Edwards had over a 4.5 second lead over second place Kevin Harvick. On lap 200, when the checkered flag flew Edwards crossed the finish line to win for the fourth time in 12 starts at Phoenix International Raceway. All of his wins have come in the fall race in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Next Saturday, Edwards and the No. 60 Copart.com team head to Homestead Miami Speedway for the final race of the 2010 season.
