BIFFLE CAPTURES EIGHTH TOP-FIVE FINISH IN 12 NNS STARTS AT PHOENIX
AVONDALE, Ariz. (April 9, 2010) -- Greg Biffle was unable to repeat as the winner of the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International on Friday at Phoenix International Raceway but managed to provide the Red Man Racing team with another top-five finish. Crew Chief Rick Viers' call for two tires during the last caution of the race nearly paid off as Biffle challenged for the lead on the final restart before sliding back to finish in the fifth position.
"On the last restart the leaders were racing hard in front of me and I had a chance at the lead but my car was a little too loose when I got underneath them," said Biffle. "The Red Man Moist Snuff Ford Fusion was real loose into the corners all night and that seemed to hurt us a little bit. We seemed to be much faster in practice then we were in the race, but we ended up with another top five and although we want to be better, I guess you really can't complain about that."
Biffle started the race from the fourth position. In the early going he communicated to Viers that the No. 27 Red Man Moist Snuff Ford was very tight and lacked front grip. When the first caution of the race occurred on lap 17, Biffle brought his Ford Fusion down pit road where the crew fixed a small break in the valance, put on four fresh tires, made a trackbar adjustment and filled it with fuel.
When the race restarted, Biffle was scored in the 33rd position. The veteran driver quickly made his way back through the field and was back in the top 15 when the second caution of the race occurred on lap 32. While the majority of the field made their first pit stop of the day, the No. 27 Red Man Moist Snuff Ford stayed on the track and moved into the second position.
The three-time Nationwide Series Phoenix winner would remain in the top 10 as the race progressed but continued to communicate that the Red Man Moist Snuff Ford Fusion was too loose. The Vancouver, WA native was running in the seventh spot when the race's final caution occurred on lap 189. Viers made the call for two tires and helped Biffle earn his eighth top-five finish in 12 Nationwide Series starts at Phoenix International Raceway.
Biffle, who ranks eighth in the NASCAR Nationwide Point Standings, will be back in the Red Man Moist Snuff Ford next Saturday, April 17th, when the series heads to Texas Motor Speedway for the O'Reilly 300.
