GAFFNEY, S.C. (September 4, 2011) – Mike Wallace and the No. 01 Chevrolet team of JD Motorsports notched another top-20 finish in NASCAR Nationwide Series competition under the lights of Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

During the two practice sessions earlier in the day, Wallace and team were 21st on the speed chart in the first one. After some chassis and other adjustments to their Chevrolet, Wallace went out for the final practice and registered the 18th-fastest time. For qualifying, he backed the final practice up by qualifying in the same spot for the 197-lap race around the 1.5-mile, high-banked oval.

Just as dusk fell over the track, the green flag fell and Wallace maintained his running position near the top-20 in the early going. The team utilized the six cautions throughout the race to make pit stops for fuel, tires and adjustments to their Chevrolet. But, there were some long green flag runs which forced non-caution stops for many teams. Such was the case for Wallace when he hit pit road under green for tires, fuel and adjustments – and then the caution came out one lap later. This put the JD Motorsports team down a lap and would be something they tried to overcome the rest of the night. Tried as they did, the end of the race ticked down with Wallace still down to the leaders.

When the checkered flag finally fell, he crossed under the flag stand in 16th place to earn his 14th top-20 finish of the 2011 season. The driver’s points battle remains the same with Wallace in 13th place trailing 12th by 10 points and 11th by 23 markers.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will race under the lights, again, this weekend when they go green on Friday night at Richmond International Raceway.

Chrissy Wallace Trek to the ASA Championship update: Late Model action took place at Lebanon I-44 Speedway on Saturday night in Missouri with Chrissy Wallace winning her heat to add some points to her ASA track championship, western and national championship bids.

However, she was spun out by another competitor on the first lap of the feature, made contact and the nose of the car was torn off. But, the never-say-quit Wallace attitude kicked in she battled back to finish sixth.

She maintains the track championship lead and will have to wait to see how her west and national competitors fared at their respective tracks to see where she stacks up in the points.

Mike Wallace Quotes: “It wasn’t a great night, and it wasn’t a bad night in Atlanta. We were able to make some adjustments between the two practices that helped us in the race, which is always a good thing.”

“We were holding our own and setting ourselves up to be good for late in the race when we pitted under green there. The caution coming out like it did one lap later and that didn’t help us out one bit, but if you could know when that was going to happen every time it would be great.”

“The team did their job on pit road and we just need to keep working on our chassis more. We’re getting there and I give credit to everyone on this team for how hard we’re all working to get there, too.”
