HOMECOMING FOR CREW
CHIEF, STEWART COOPER Nashville native, Stewart Cooper, joined Braun Racing late last season to lead the No. 38 Great Clips Racing team and call the shots for driver, Jason Leffler. Cooper's racing career began at the Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN. He served as crew chief on Casey Atwood's late model team and followed Atwood through the ranks and to the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Brewco Motorsports (now Baker-Curb), the team he would call home for the next seven years. Working as car chief and lead engineer for five years, he was promoted to crew chief in 2005. In his complete tenure at Brewco Motorsports working with a variety of drivers from veterans to rookies, Cooper led his team to a total of eight wins, seven poles, 32 top-five and 79 top-10 finishes.
"Nashville is home to me," says Cooper, "but it's still just a race track to me. It's my favorite race track -- not necessarily because friends and family are nearby, but because it's a good track to compete at. I've had some success there and was able to win in 2003 with David Green and Brewco Motorsports. Jason's done well there, too. Hopefully we'll be able to pull from both our past history there and have the results this weekend."
LEFFLER ON NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY "We had really great runs in both races at Nashville Superspeedway last year so we look forward to going back and repeating those efforts. We are taking back the same car for this race so we are counting on being pretty strong right out of the box and hope to only have to make minimal adjustments during practice to get the car perfect. This has always been a good track for Braun Racing and especially the 38 Great Clips team; we just need to capitalize on our previous success by qualifying up front, running a smooth race, and being there at the end to contend for the win."
EQUIPMENT INFORMATION The No. 38 Great Clips team will compete with chassis #23 in this weekend's Pepsi 300. Leffler has an impressive record driving chassis #23 last season finishing no worse than 11th - second at Bristol (fall), third and fourth at Nashville, sixth at Darlington and 11th at Dover (spring).
