The new limits should be announced in the next couple of weeks, Xfinity Series director Wayne Auton said Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Currently, Cup series drivers with more than five years of experience are limited to a maximum of 10 races in the Xfinity Series and seven in Trucks. Drivers with that experience level are also prohibited from competing in both series’ playoff races.

Multiple sources have told Motorsport.com that the most discussed new limit would be five races for both series.

“Going forward we have been in talks with teams about limiting the number of races more, or even staying where we’re at,” Auton said. “Those conversations are on-going so stay tuned.

“Something should be coming out soon on what the garage area has asked us to look at.”

Auton emphasized, however, that the younger drivers in his series continue to welcome Cup drivers as fellow competitors.

“You look at the talent that is in this garage area this year, NASCAR racing is set for a long time with the talent that we’ve got with the ‘Young Guns’ that are out there,” he said. “Then, you have the old wily veterans.

“There are limitations we set forth this year and I think everyone accepted them. We want to make sure we have 40 race cars on the track every week and 40 competitive cars every week. I’m very proud of how our Xfinity drivers have held up this year.

“They are really driving hard this year to make sure they have a chance to get in the playoffs and go down to Homestead and get that championship.”
