Kyle Larson secures his second Nationwide victory of the season

The No. 42 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet of Kyle Larson dominated the History 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, specifically the second half of the 200-lap event, leading 82 laps on his way to his second-career Nationwide win.

"It was about perfect for us," Larson said. "I knew we had a good piece, but not not that good."

The No. 22 Team Penske Ford of Brad Keselowski was able to hold off the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing of Kyle Busch in the final laps to finish second. Busch wound up third when it was all said and done.

"Kyle (Busch) and I had a great race," Keselowski said.

The No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet of Kevin Harvick came home fourth, and the No. 2 Richard Childress racing Chevrolet of Brian Scott rounded out the top-five.

"We were just a little off today in the Hunt Brothers Chevy," Harvick admitted.

Larson took the lead on lap 119 and ran up front the rest of the way. In the closing laps, he pulled away from the Keselowski-Busch battle as they dueled for the runner-up position.

"It's not often you see the 54 and 22 getting smaller behind you," Larson said.

The Joe Gibbs Racing teammates of Busch and the No. 20 JGR Toyota of Matt Kenseth combined to dominate the first half of the race. Busch started from pole and led until Kenseth was able to muscle by on a restart around lap 30.

Once Busch lost the lead, he drifted back outside the top-five. He ran just outside contention (around the sixth position) for much of the remainder of the race, until he got off pit road fourth during the third caution of the race with 30 laps remaining.

Kenseth ran up front until a cycle of green-flag stops around lap 80, but he retook control once everyone pitted. Keselowski made his way up to second on a restart following a caution on lap 87 and then took the lead from Kenseth on lap 97. He ran up front until Larson passed him in a breathtaking three wide pass.

Kenseth finished sixth, the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet of Regan Smith was seventh, the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford of Trevor Bayne eighth, the No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford of Chris Buescher ninth, and the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Ty Dillon rounded out the top ten.

The yellow flag waved three times throughout the race, first just before lap 25 when the No. 39 RSS Racing Chevrolet of Ryan Sieg spun. The second caution came on lap 87 when the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet of Chase Elliott pounded the wall after something apparently broke on the car. The final caution was for debris and came with just 30 laps left in the race.

"I was worried on that last restart, because we weren't good on short runs but great on long runs," Larson revealed.

Regan Smith has taken over the championship lead by five points over Elliott Sadler. Chase Elliott has fallen to third after his mid-race issues, 28 markers behind his teammate.
