Kevin Harvick collects fourth Nationwide win this year at Chicagoland

A call by crew chief Ernie Cope to take only two tires during a caution on lap 151 of the Jimmy John's Freaky Fast 300 allowed the Freay Fast No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet of Kevin Harvick to steal the win. It's the 44th of his Nationwide win.

"That's the call that won us this race," Harvick said. "Ernie Cope won us this race."

We deserved to win, but couldn't get through traffic.

Third place Kyle Busch

The No. 42 Turner Scott Motorsports Chevrolet of Kyle Larson finished second with the No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Kyle Busch following closely behind. Busch was none too pleased with the result after a dominating performance that saw him lead 141 laps of the 200-lap event.

"This car was fast today," Busch said. "We deserved to win, but couldn't get through traffic."

Race summary

Busch took the race lead from the pole-sitting No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet of Brian Scott by lap five and led untila late-caution and a number of varying strategies saw him restart back in 16th.

Busch worked his way up to eighth by the time the yellow flag waved for the sixth and final time on lap 165, and when the race returned to green, he wasted no time. After charging back up to third, Busch stalled out and failed to make anymore progress.

Harvick made his way up to third by the time the second caution came out on lap 71. He then got off pit road in second and was given a chance to challenge Busch. Harvick was able to take the top spot from Busch on the restart, but that lead was short-lived, as Busch quickly got back up front.

The lap 151 caution shakeup

After the lap 151 caution, Harvick restarted the race from the fifth position, as the No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford of Chris Buescher, the No. 98 Biagi-DenBeste RacingFord of Aric Almirola and Scott stayed out to restart first through third.

Almirola and Scott claimed the top-two spots when the race restarted and were battling for the lead when Harvick muscled his way past them both. Larson, like Busch, took four tires, but was able to get back up to second by the time the race restarted following the final yellow flag.

The No. 22 Team Penske Ford of Ryan Blaney finished fourth after a radio issue and handling problems early in the race, and the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford of Trevor Bayne finished fifth.

"I'm just glad this team didn't give up early when we didn't have speed," Bayne said.

The No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Elliott Sadler was sixth, Dillon seventh and the No. 7 JR Motorsports Chevrolet of Regan Smith eighth. After a pit road snafu, Scott finished ninth, and the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet of Chase Elliott rounded out the top-10.
