This Week’s Challenger… Jacques Villeneuve and the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge Challenger team will use chassis PRS-214 during Saturday’s NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. This chassis was previously used as Villeneuve’s back up car during the race at Road America in June.
The No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger in 2012... Following 21 points-paying events, the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge team is ranked sixth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) owner point standings following a thrilling second-place finish with Brad Keselowski behind the wheel last weekend at the Watkins Glen International road course.
Hometown Hero… Born in Quebec and a longtime resident of Montreal, Villeneuve is considered a hometown hero. It’s no wonder that Villeneuve cherishes Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as his home track and one of his personal favorites. The track is named after his father, Gilles Villeneuve, who died tragically during a qualifying session for the 1982 Formula One Series Belgian Grand Prix.
Success in Montreal…Villeneuve has experienced much success at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the past. He recorded six top-15 and three top-10 finishes in the Formula One Series at Montreal, in addition to his two top-five NASCAR results at the venue.
Road Course Rewind… Villeneuve will make his fourth career start with Penske Racing this weekend – all on road courses. In his first start of the year, Villeneuve finished sixth at Road America on June 23. In last year’s race at Montreal, Villeneuve captured the pole and teammate Alex Tagliani qualified second to mark the last front row qualifying sweep in the Nationwide Series for Penske Racing.
Jacques Villeneuve on his return to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with Penske Racing
“It will be good to get back in the No. 22 Dodge Challenger this weekend, and even better that it will be at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. I always enjoy racing in front of the Montreal crowd, and it’s going to be super tough and competitive as ever. We were quick around here last year with Penske Racing and we’ll definitely be looking to convert that into a solid result on Saturday. With only two races on the calendar for me this year, we have to make this one count. I would like very much to deliver a strong performance for myself and for the team.”
Crew chief Jeremy Bullins on working with Jacques Villeneuve this weekend
“The Penske Racing Dodge Challenger team is excited to head to Montreal this weekend and continue our road course momentum from Watkins Glen. After leading a lot of laps and just falling short of a win there we hope to close the deal this weekend with (Jacques) Villeneuve behind the wheel. Villeneuve displayed unmatched speed at Road America and we hope to have the car to beat for this weekend’s race. If this Dodge Challenger team can execute as well as we did this past weekend, we feel like we can contend for a victory.”
