PRACTICE NOTES: RWR TEAMMATES AMONG TOP-TEN FASTEST AT INDIANAPOLIS
--Both Rusty Wallace Racing Drivers Look to be Contenders at O'Reilly--
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 26, 2008)--Should practice speeds be any indication, look for Rusty Wallace Racing teammates Steve Wallace and David Stremme to be contenders for victory in tonight's Kroger 200 at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Wallace and Stremme were both among the top-ten fastest drivers in this afternoon's final practice session at the legendary short track.
Wallace and his No. 66 Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches team posted the seventh-fastest lap of the final practice session, with an effort of 23.109 seconds (106.867 MPH). The No. 66 squad was also seventh-fastest in the morning practice, with a lap of 23.153 seconds (106.664 MPH).
Noted Wallace, "We've had a really good car ever since we got on the track for the first time this morning. If we can qualify up front and maintain our track position, I think we'll have a really good shot at a top-five or top-ten tonight. On a short track like this though, it's all about staying out of trouble. You never know what's going to happen at a place like this, but if we can stay out of trouble I think we'll be there at the end."
Meanwhile, Wallace's teammate, David Stremme and his No. 64 Penske Truck Rental team look to be among the contenders tonight as well. Stremme's best lap of 23.148 seconds (106.687 MPH) made him the tenth-fastest driver of the final practice session.
Said Stremme, "Our car has gotten better and better as the day has gone on; I'm really proud of how hard my guys worked during practice today. I think we'll have a good car for tonight's nice. Hopefully, we'll be able to have both of our RWR cars up front and contending for the win at the end of the night."
The next on-track activity for the Nationwide Series is this afternoon's two-lap qualifying session, scheduled for 4:30 PM ET. Wallace and Stremme will be the 14th and 21st cars to make qualifying attempts during the session, respectively. The Kroger 200 is set for an 8:00 PM ET start Friday evening, with live television coverage by ESPN2, beginning with NASCAR Countdown at 7:30 PM ET.
