Garrett Smithley to make Xfinity debut in season finale
The NASCAR season finale weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway is shaping up to be a big weekend for upstart Garrett Smithley.
Smithley will make his Xfinity Series debut that weekend, driving the No. 70 Chevrolet for Derrike Cope Racing with sponsorship from SegPay in the Nov. 21 Ford 300 season finale.
Smithley, 23, has made three career starts in the Camping World Truck Series – all this season – and will also compete in the Nov. 20 Truck Series season finale at Homestead with MB Motosports.
“Making my debut Xfinity Series debut and returning to Derrike Cope Racing is really special,” the native of Peachtree City, Ga., said. “DCR gave me my first opportunity in a full-sized stock car, and coming back to a team I’m familiar is a great feeling.
“We raced well together in 2013 (in ARCA), and I’m confident we can do the same at Homestead.”
Smithley, a former Legends and Bandoleros driver, also serves as a driving instructor for the Richard Petty Driving School.
