LAGASSE JR. BATTLES WAY TO 15TH-PLACE FINISH AT AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY
FONTANA, Calif., (February 21, 2010) -- Just as he did in 2009, Scott Lagasse Jr. rebounded from a disappointing Daytona finish with a top-15 Saturday in the Stater Bros. 300 at Auto Club Speedway. After starting the race from the 26th position, he avoided trouble all day and made a late race surge to pick up his second career top-15 finish in as many starts at the two-mile track.
"When you qualify where we did, it makes for a long day but we battled our way back to a solid finish," Lagasse Jr. said. "I'm proud of the guys for sticking with me all day and making the Dr. Gadget/everybodywins1.com Ford Fusion handle better after each pit stop."
In the early stages of the race Lagasse Jr. communicated to crew chief Jeff White that the Dr. Gadget/everyobodygets1.com Ford Fusion was extremely loose. When the first caution of the race occurred on lap 33, the St. Augustine, FL native brought his No. 43 down pit road where the crew filled it with fuel, put four fresh tires on and made a trackbar adjustment.
Lagasse Jr. continued to run middle of the pack as he communicated that the car remained loose. After another trackbar adjustment during a green-flag pit stop on lap 81, he made his way into the top 20 for the first time all day. On lap 82 the No. 43 Dr. Gadget/everyobodygets1.com Ford Fusion turned in its fastest lap of the race but soon surrendered a lap to race leader Joey Logano.
When Logano pitted during a debris caution on lap 86, Lagasse Jr. remained on the track and got his lap back via the wave-around rule. The final caution of the race occurred on lap 146 with the No. 43 in the 17th spot. Crew chief Jeff White ordered his driver to pit road where the crew put on four fresh tires and filled the Dr. Gadget/everyobodygets1.com Ford Fusion with fuel.
Back on the track in 16th position, Lagasse Jr. picked up one more spot in the final laps of the race to pick up his first top-15 finish of the season.
Lagasse Jr. and the Dr. Gadget Racing team will be back in action Saturday, February 27th, when the Nationwide Series takes to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Sam's Town 300.
