Nationwide Series Career Best Finish for Michael Annett at Auto Club Speedway
Fontana, CA. (October 11, 2009) -- Tallying up awards for Raybestos Rookie of the Race, Mobil 1 Performance Driver of the Race and Featherlite Most Improved Driver, Michael Annett finished sixth in the Copart 300 at Auto Club Speedway for his career best Nationwide Series finish. Annett's sixth place finish topped that of any other Nationwide Series-only competitor in the field.
This was Annett's fifth time this season earning Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors, the second time in the last three races. Annett also scored top finishing rookie awards this year at Gateway International Raceway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway and Dover International Raceway.
The No. 15 Pilot Travel Centers/HYPE Energy Drinks Toyota Camry started the 150 lap race in 24th. Steadily driving further through the field and into the top-10 on lap 113, Annett made a total of 24 passes during green flag conditions, which earned him the Featherlite Most Improved Driver award.
In only his second time competing at Auto Club Speedway, Annett consistently worked to find a comfortable line on the track reaching a high of fourth during the 150 lap race. With a green white checkered finish, Annett drove past the checkered flag in sixth.
"Michael's performance at California was very impressive," said spotter Slugger Labbe, "He really showed his talent. Driving against a field of drivers made up of many Cup Series competitors can be tough, but by finishing ahead of all the Nationwide Series only drivers, he proved he's up for the challenge."
"California was our best finish this season, and it was the perfect momentum builder leading into Charlotte next week," said Annett. "I'm so thankful to have my Germain Racing team behind me 100 percent. I owe this season best finish to those guys. As a whole, we keep getting better and better, so these last five races should be an exciting finish to my first full season in the Nationwide Series."
Annett's strong finish pushed the rookie closer in the Nationwide Series point race. Now just 37 points outside of the top-10, Annett and the No. 15 team are depending on a good finish next weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway to secure a spot in the top-10 in points.
The No. 15 Lumber Liquidators/Pilot Travel Centers Toyota Camry hits the track at Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Nationwide Series Dollar General 300 on Friday, October 16.
