NATIONWIDE SERIES DRIVER OF THE WEEK: Joey will be the Nationwide Insurance Driver of the Week for Auto Club Speedway. As part of being the Driver of the Week.
TESTING... 1, 2, 3... TESTING: The No. 20 GameStop team will get a little bit more testing in this week at Rockingham Speedway in preparation for the upcoming Nationwide Series "new car" event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Logano and the team will test for two days this week at the one-mile high-banked track located in Rockingham, NC. Logano is quite familiar with "The Rock," as he won an ARCA event there back in 2008. The team also recently tested the "new car" at Gresham Motorsports Park in Georgia.
CALIFORNIA KINDA FEELS LIKE HOME: Although Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA couldn't be any further away from Logano's hometown of Middletown, CT, the track kind of feels like home to Logano. Statistically, Auto Club Speedway is one of Logano's best tracks on the entire Nationwide Series schedule. Logano has logged four top-six finishes in all four of his Nationwide Series starts at the track. In fact, of those four finishes, they include a win, a third and a fifth (which came earlier this year after Logano led 130 of the race's 152 laps). Logano also has won the last two poles at the track.
"I'm pretty pumped to get back to California, because I think that track really owes me one from earlier this year. We had a dominate car there back in February and led about 130 laps or so and got moved out of the way by another driver on the green-white-checkered restart. That really stung and was the first of a bunch of races that I feel we should have won this year. So I guess this is the best time to go back to the track, coming off of a win (at Kansas) and two poles.
"This whole No. 20 team is really clicking right now. But we can't rest on that. Because as soon as you think you have it figured out, you are going to get beaten by the rest of these guys out there. Kyle (Busch), Brad (Keselowski), (Kevin) Harvick and Carl (Edwards) are all right there and will jump all over you if you can't stay on top of your game. So we just need to go to California and do what we've been doing, which is bringing good cars, make good adjustments and get out front. We are bringing the same car that we won with last year there and nearly won with earlier this year.
"I'm excited to have another special paint scheme on the car this week with Mad Catz. We had them on the car last year for a race and the car looked sick. The colors just go real well together. Unfortunately, we got wrecked out of that race. So hopefully, this time around we can get a good finish for those guys because they are awesome. They really enjoy being around the sport and the team, and those are the types of people you need to do good for. So hopefully, we can make it three poles and two wins in a row."
"Coming off of a win always make the next race a little challenging, but a lot of fun as well. You want to keep the momentum going and that is a lot easier, because the guys on the team and the guy behind the wheel are all really pumped up, and when you are pumped up, you are performing your best. But also, when you are on a roll, everyone out there is working a little bit harder because they want to knock you off that perch. So you've got to enjoy the win, but you've got to come into the next race working just as hard as you have been; like you haven't won in months.
"California is a track that owes this team. We had a dominate GameStop car back there earlier this year and only came out of there with a fifth-place finish. It's a track that our organization has some good notes on as we always come to the track with great setups and a knowledge of what to do to keep the car up front. But the weather is a little different this time of the year, so you have to factor that in as well. We're taking one of our best cars to the track. Chassis 2089 has won five races (Kentucky 09, Kansas 09, Chicago 09, Auto Club 09, Kentucky 10) and is the same one we used at the track back in February. So, if we can make the right adjustments, we should be right there."
