Richardson, Jr. Makes First Run At Chicago With NASCAR Nationwide Series
Mooresville, NC (07-09-08) NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, Robert Richardson, Jr. and the No. 23 R3 Motorsports team will pack up and head to the Windy City this week to compete in the Dollar General 300 Powered by Coca Cola. This race will serve as a significant event in a list of season firsts for Richardson, Jr. "It's my first run at Chicagoland Speedway in a Nationwide series car", said Richardson, Jr. "I've raced in Chicago with the ARCA RE/MAX series and tested there when I ran in the Craftsman Truck series."
Along with being the first time Richardson, Jr has taken the pavement at Chicagoland with the NASCAR Nationwide Series, it will be the first time the track itself has been exposed to the illuminating glow of night lights. "I've always enjoyed being under the lights whether it was football or racing", said Richardson, Jr. It creates a different effect for the fans and for the drivers as well. Plus it's a lot cooler at night too!"
Although this is not Richardson, Jr's first run at Chicago, he is realistic in his expectations of running in a different series with a more powerful car on the 1.5 mile D-shaped oval. "I have to go into this weekend ready to start over and re-learn the track with these cars", said Richardson, Jr. I anticipate getting up to speed too quickly and making mistakes early. However, my goal is to just get comfortable with my car and score laps around the track." Richardson, Jr. will pilot the same Chevrolet Monte Carlo around Chicagoland Speedway that he raced at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May.
The Dollar General 300 powered by Coca Cola is set to go under green Friday, June 11 at 8 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on ESPN beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST. ESPN 2 will be hosting live coverage of NASCAR Nationwide Series final practice session Thursday, June 10 at 7 p.m. EST and will broadcast NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying beginning Friday, June 11 at 4 p.m. EST.
