RWR PRACTICE NOTES: STREMME AND WALLACE FAST ON THURSDAY IN CHARLOTTE
--Rusty Wallace Racing Teammates Look to Be Among the Contenders in Friday Night's Contest--
CONCORD, NC (October 9, 2008)--On a rain-soaked day in Charlotte, Rusty Wallace Racing teammates David Stremme and Steve Wallace posted impressive performances in today's pre-race practice for tomorrow night's 300-mile NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Constant rain in the Charlotte area cut short today's first practice session, but the RWR duo made the most of their track time. Stremme, piloting the No. 64 Avis Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, ranked fourth-fastest of the 49-car field in Thursday's practice session. His fastest lap of 30.155 seconds (179.075 MPH) occurred on the 13th of his 13 laps in the session.
Noted Stremme, "Our Avis Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS was really strong right off of the truck today. We still have a lot of things that we want to try in final practice tomorrow morning, but overall, I'm really comfortable with our handling package right now. Hopefully, we'll have good final practice and qualifying sessions tomorrow and position ourselves well for the race. As always, staying out of trouble and having good pit stops are going to be big tomorrow night. Our guys have been working hard on their stops, so hopefully we'll be able to keep our Avis car up front all night and be there to contend for the win."
Stremme's teammate, Steve Wallace was also very impressive in today's practice session, ranking sixth-fastest of the 49-car field, in his No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. Wallace's best lap of 30.245 seconds (178.542 MPH) was the 14th of his 15 laps on the day and was a mere 0.15 seconds off of the day's fastest time.
Stated Wallace, "I'm really happy with our 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet so far. We ended up practice today just a little bit tight and we're going to work hard on that in final practice tomorrow morning. Overall though, I feel like we have a car that can run up front and contend tomorrow night. We were second-fastest in final practice during the spring race here, but we ended up having problems in qualifying. Hopefully, this time around, we'll have a solid run in qualifying, because I feel like we have another great car here at Charlotte."
The next on-track session for the Nationwide Series is tomorrow morning's final practice. Originally set for this evening, the session was postponed to 10:00 AM tomorrow due to rain. Qualifying is set for 3:05 PM; Wallace and Stremme will be the fifth and sixth cars, respectively, to make attempts. Tomorrow night's 300-mile race, from Lowe's Motor Speedway at Charlotte, is set for a 8:00 PM ET start. The event features live television coverage by ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, beginning with NASCAR Countdown, at 7:30 PM ET.
