Chase Miller Looking to Build on Milestone in 10th NNS Start
CONCORD, NC -- Chase Miller is still grinning after his first career Nationwide Series top-10 finish two weeks ago. The 21-year-old Gillett Evernham Motorsports driver plans to repeat that performance at Lowe's Motor Speedway this weekend.
Miller's eighth-place finish at Darlington came in just his ninth-career start, and third of 2008. This weekend, the Canton, Ga. native's No. 19 Dodge Charger carries Verizon Wireless/Motorola sponsorship.
Miller and the Kevin Kidd-led team posted the second-fastest time during the recent NNS test at LMS. And, GEM teammate Kasey Kahne won the All-Star Race while his other teammate, Elliott Sadler, earned the Showdown pole. Kidd, who normally serves as Team Engineer on the No. 19 Dodge for Elliott Sadler, will be pulling double duty this weekend as Miller's Team Director.
Chase Miller Quotes
On first top-10 coming at Darlington: I'm still not over the fact what all happened that night. I mean, we ran a good race and everyone did their part to make sure stayed in the game. It was my first start at the track, with the new pavement, in only my ninth start and we end up with my first career top-10 finish. So, yeah...it took a bit to soak in, but now it's time to move forward to Lowe's."
How did the Lowe's test go? "It was great for us in a lot of ways. It gave me the chance to run the track a few more times so I'd get used to it even more. And, it gave the team a chance to work out some of the things we needed on our No. 19 Verizon Wireless/Motorola Dodge. We keep doing all we can to get better, and this team just seems to rally around each other. I can't thank them enough for all their hard work. It makes me want to driver harder and get better for them. Kevin Kidd is very knowledgeable and I look forward to learning more from him this weekend as our Team Director."
Goals for this weekend: "Well, I'm making my 10th NNS start and that officially puts me in the double digits -- which is a good thing. We are going to do what we've done in every other race and that's run a good, clean one. Not make any dumb mistakes to hurt everyone's hard work. And, finish on the lead lap and bring the car home in one piece. So far, so good and I plan on keeping it that way.
Kevin Kidd Quotes
"Chase has come a long way since the beginning of the year and he knows what he needs in a car during practice to be good in the race. That helps me and the other guys on the team a great deal in getting the set-up right. We're looking for another solid run for Chase; I think he can run in the top-15 again. That's our goal for him, and the team, this weekend."
