Chad Knaus to assist Allgaier's interim crew chief in title-decider
Chad Knaus will assist fill-in crew chief Billy Wilburn atop the No. 7 JR Motorsports pit box for the EcoBoost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday as Justin Allgaier battles for the Xfinity Series title.
Jason Burdett, the team’s regular crew chief, was suspended after a lug nut was missing from the No. 7 Chevy following last weekend’s race at Phoenix Raceway. JRM elected to elevate Wilburn, who normally serves under Burdett as the team’s car chief, into the primary role for the season finale.
But Knaus, who led Jimmie Johnson and No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team to seven Cup championships, will add his expertise to the No. 7 team for the Championship run. JRM’s competition director Ryan Pemberton said with the No. 48 pit crew also pitting for Allgaier, Knaus knows the pit crew best.
Knaus joined the No. 7 crew during final practice to get a feel for the team prior to the race.
