Wes Ward Promoted to Director of Competition at ppc Racing
(Mooresville, N.C.) - On Wednesday, ppc Racing announced the promotion of crew chief Wes Ward to the Director of Competition for it's No. 22 NASCAR Busch Series car driven by Jason Keller and the No. 10 NASCAR Craftsman Truck driven by Terry Cook. The Hickory, N.C. native came to ppc Racing at the start of the 2004 season to assume the role of crew chief on Keller's No. 22 Miller High Life Ford. Since then, Keller has posted five top-10 finishes, two top-5 finishes and currently sits sixth in driver standings. Ward came to ppc Racing from Akins Motorsports after finishing the 2003 season with a victory at Homestead Motor Speedway with driver Kasey Kahne.
In addition to his role as crew chief on Keller's ppc Ford, Ward has temporarily taken over the responsibility of crew chief for the No. 10 NASCAR Craftsman Truck of Terry Cook until ppc finds a replacement for former crew chief Fred Wanke. After leading Keller to his second consecutive top-5 finish of the season this past weekend at Richmond International Raceway; Ward flew to Mansfield, Ohio to bring Terry Cook a third place finish in the Ohio 250. Ward's pit strategies earned both drivers top-five finishes and additional momentum heading into this weekend's events.
Ward's role as Director of Competition at ppc Racing will involve overseeing all internal department decisions regarding performance. "I appreciate what Greg's done for me and the opportunity he has presented to me. ppc has a lot of tradition and we want to keep that tradition going throughout the 2004 season. This is a championship team and I think this is a step in the right direction to bring us back to where we need to be," Ward said upon commenting on his promotion. "I want to do a good job for Greg and Keith. I feel privileged that they put the trust in me to carry this team back to a championship."
Team owner, Greg Pollex feels this may be just what his organization needs to bring it back to the championship caliber they experienced in 2000 with driver Jeff Green. "Wes Ward has the knowledge, dedication and attitude to lead ppc Racing back to championships in both the Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Wes has the ability to organize and manage people into a cohesive group all working towards the same goal," Pollex said. "We are proud to announce this well earned promotion for Wes."
